Made in Germany, these large magnetic tangrams measure 6.25 inches, and come in a 8 inch square metal case. Set comes with one blue-green, and one orange-pink tangram. Pieces are interchangeable and can also be combined. The puzzles can be used on any magnetboard, magnetic dry-erase board, magnetic chalkboard and most metallic surfaces. The pieces are cut from 1/8 inch birch plywood and are colored with non-toxic water-based dyes. They are minimally finished with no varnishes. What is a Tangram? The tangram puzzle is a clever matching game that has been around for thousands of years. For a game to endure that long it must have some very special qualities! The open-endedness of the puzzle invites the player to apply elements of imagination and creative ability - each player at his own level. A very young child will play with the shapes and arrange them in abstract patterns, then learn to form them back into a square. Games for older children include fitting the pieces into predesigned patterns following templates (usually animals and objects) and creating designs of their own.
